Are you trying to “Strive for 5” vegetables and fruits in a day? Try packing some locally grown fruit for snacks such as an apple or grapes. Grapes were introduced to Americans about 300 years ago by Spanish explorers. Grapes grow on the vine and can be green, red and blue-black. Some have seeds, some do not. The next time you are in the grocery store, look at the different varieties that are there. They are a good source of Potassium, Vitamin C and Photochemicals which help to protect us from heart disease. A half cup of grapes is a perfect snack for recess or after school!!
Physical Activity Tidbit
Did you know that being active for at least 60 minutes daily and limiting time spent being sedentary to less than 2 hours per day can help children
improve their health. They do better in school and improve self-esteem and confidence. It allows children to have fun playing with their friends while grower stronger. Let’ s try to go out and learn a new skill or activity.
