Welcome to Rankin for the 2013-2014 Academic Year!

We would like to give a special welcome to all new students and staff. We are getting settled back into the school routine and we are planning for another great year! We would like to thank
Ray O’Keefe our Custodian for his hard work over the summer. The building looks great!

We welcome Heather MacLean back in the Primary/Grade One position and we are awaiting the placement of our Core Gaelic Grant Teacher. We have five new primary students full of enthusiasm eager to do their best that are getting into the school routine and starting their journey.

This year we have seventeen students in the graduating class at Rankin. The Class of 2014 is in their final year of high school and will soon be making plans for the next stage of their lives. Time has gone by quickly for them as will the next ten months. Students are encouraged to get off to a good start and set up a routine that will be most productive in the final courses in high school.

There will be a meeting of the Grade 12 students and their parents to discuss any academic questions and the events to come such as prom and graduation. The meeting will be held on Monday September 23 at 7pm. All Grade 12 students and at least one parent or guardian is asked to attend. Mr. Clarke,
Mr. Sawlor, Charlene Ellis and Mr. Murphy will attend.

We have been working on our website http://www.rankinschoolofthenarrows.ca
Please check it for information updates. We would rather use the website instead of doing paper newsletters. If you do not have access to the website we would be happy to provide you with a paper copy of news updates, just let us know.

There are many extracurricular activities available throughout the year both at the elementary and Jr./Sr. levels. We encourage students to get involved and participate when ever possible.

The first Home and School Meeting will be held on Monday October 7, 2013 at 7pm at the school. All parents are invited to attend.

The first School Advisory Council Meeting will be held on Monday September 30, 2013 at 7pm at the school. All interested are invited to attend.

School Pictures will be taken on Tuesday September 24, 2013.

The Sports Teams will be holding a Bottle Drive on Wednesday September 25 from
3-7pm. Students involved are asked to participate. Funds raised go to support various needs related to sports in the school. Volunteers are needed to collect and sort. Please call the school if you can help.

Student work will be on display at the Christmas Island Community Fair this Saturday at the Christmas Island Firehall from 11am-1pm.

Communication between parents, students and the school is very important. We will call you when we have concerns or questions and we ask that you feel free to do the same. Any information that we can share with each other to help the students succeed is important.

Attached you will find general school information that is important to both the elementary and Jr./Sr. students as well as a form for the payment of student fees.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Theresa MacNeil
